This room is all about total relaxation and escapism,’ says Sommer Pyne, perched on the comfortable window seat of her light and airy master en suite at her welcoming home in South West London. The décor guru, who runs House Curious, a home interiors outlet and hub for creative workshops, decided to turn the entire first floor of her expansive home into a master bedroom, bathroom and dressing room when she and husband Will took on the renovations several years ago.

‘It’s always been a dream of mine to have a huge bedroom and walk-in wardrobe. It is total luxury and I still have to pinch myself when I wake up every morning,’ says Sommer, whose husband Will is chief creative officer at a digital media company. ‘We got rid of a bedroom to accommodate my dressing room but the flowing suite of rooms gives the house that extra special wow factor, and who needs seven bedrooms anyway?’ The busy couple, who have two young children, Lyla-Rose, five, and India, 11 months, also wanted to establish an oasis of calm in their hectic lives. So throughout they have chosen décor that really achieves a feeling of calm with the watery tones of the stormy grey and blush colours on the walls.

‘It’s so serene – I never stop appreciating it,’ says Sommer, who used Ade Architecture to devise the layout to fit their lifestyle. ‘As the children get older, they will be making lots of noise downstairs with their friends – and we wanted to create a place where we could retreat. Even now, when I have had a terrible day, I will come up here, put the music on, light the candles and relax in a comforting bath. It’s bliss.’
