Whether you’re designing a completely new kitchen or just updating your current one, the placement of the appliances is key to how much use and enjoyment you will get from the space. Incorporating a bank of built-in appliances is a great chance to fit in everything you need and want in a way that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Jennifer Taylor, senior brand manager from Hotpoint, says: ‘Banks of sleek and stylish appliances are designed to complement and harmonise with a variety of kitchen designs from traditional to the most contemporary. Open-plan living remains very popular, and neat built-in appliances lend themselves to this trend very well as they create a beautiful synergy in the kitchen.’ With a bit of careful planning you can have the essentials conveniently placed and maybe even then have room for something extra, like that built-in coffee machine you have always wanted.
Lucy King, product manager at Smeg UK, explains: ‘When looking at the configuration, the main thing to consider is the space you have available. In a compact kitchen, the linear formation is the best option, stacking appliances on top of one another to maximise a bijou space. A cross-shaped layout works well in larger kitchens with a statement wall where models can be spread across the width of the kitchen. Think about which appliances you use most often, such as the oven, and put in the easiest place to access.’
