Throwing open your doors, decorating a dining table and enjoying delicious food in good company is what summer is all about. Wouldn't you agree? Despite the British weather being somewhat unpredictable, we're feeling optimistic and planning for the warmer day.

Being prepared for entertaining outdoors can be as simple as remembering to have enough crockery, comfortable chairs and plenty of food and drink. However, if you have a little more time on your hands and want to decorate your table we have found a few stylish ideas to inspire you…

We love the simplicity of the Vipp tableware in clear glass and grey ceramic cups (shown top) and the beautiful crisp white table linen from The White Company which has a table styled with scented candles and delicate white floral arrangements such as hydrangeas or sprigs of gypsophila.

Kristina Lindhe, founder, designer and CEO of Lexington Company, offers the following tips on setting your table: 'You can unify your table setting with colour – this doesn’t mean matching everything but try to avoid too many distracting or clashing hues. If using pastel colours use them in a more rugged fabric and against a white backdrop to avoid looking too cutesy. One piece of practical advice would be to avoid tall flowers and overly fussy floral arrangements. It looks artificial and guests need to be able to see one another across the table.'

For food, think nibbles such a bread and olives, salads, fresh fruit and tapas-style dishes which can easily be shared. For beverages, use a drinks trolley that can be easily wheeled from your kitchen indoors out on to your patio and stock it up with the essentials such as drink bottles, glasses, tumblers, plates and napkins.
